Alan Rickman was an English actor and director known for playing a variety of roles on stage and on screen.
He was the voice of Marvin the android in the 2005 film of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, with Warwick Davis performing in the costume as the android during the film.
Rickman was known for his distinctive voice, and for several well known and award-winning portrayals of characters, such as Jamie in Truly, Madly, Deeply (1991), Colonel Brandon in Sense and Sensibility (1995), Alexander Dane in Galaxy Quest (1999), Harry in Love Actually (2003), Judge Turpin in the film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's musical of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007), Alice in Wonderland (2010), and Severus Snape in the Harry Potter series.
His final film roles were as Lieutenant General Frank Benson in the thriller Eye in the Sky (2015), and the voice of Absolem, the caterpillar in Alice Through the Looking Glass (2016).
