User Safety - Unaffiliated “Hitchhiker’s Wiki Discord”
Hello all!
I do hope everyone in our little community has been keeping as well as they can be during this tumultuous year. Understandably editing has slowed down during 2020 but I’m glad to see it as it means our users are prioritising real life things and that’s more important.
I just wanted to make you aware that a user who has been permanently banned from the Hitchhiker’s Wiki for refusing to follow guidelines, harassment, and quite frankly a lot of self entitled and disrespectful behaviour is back to attention seeking in all the wrong ways.
A day after receiving a permanent ban the user CarverSindile started their latest attempt to clamour for attention and continue their affiliation with our Wiki by creating what they and no one else is…
Hitchhiker's Video Game Art
Hi all!
If you're reading this I hope you've been able to keep safe during everything that's been happening in the world. Understandably many FANDOM editors, myself included, have had to put our personal lives and work before our editing and I hope people are able to continue to focus on making themselves a priority as much as possible!
Just thought I'd share some of the original art from the manual and promo material for the 1984 Hitchhiker's video game that I stumbled across recently! I'd never seen it before and I hope it's interesting to some other people out there!

I'm Back
I go away to hibernate a year and come back and discover this wiki doesn't seem as active when I was activated/active on it.
Edit: I wonder why.

Hitchhiker's turns 42!
Hello my fellow Megadodo staff!
I'm a few days late but, well, time is a construct and all that - anyway on 8th March we celebrated 42 years of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy which first aired on that day in 1978!
Pan Macmillan has reprinted the scripts and novels in colourful new 42nd anniversary editions, the British Library hosted a bunch of events, and BBC Radio 4 aired the original episodes - it's wonderful to know that Hitchhiker's still has such an enduring fanbase and isn't going away anytime soon!
BBC Radio 4 extra had a great one hour special to celebrate the 42nd anniversary which might interest you - it's all about other sci-fi podcasts, with Rachel Wheeley from The Strange Case of Starship Iris which is a podcast I'd recommend…
42 Medals!
Hello all, hope you and your towels are keeping well!
Just wanted to congratulate us all for earning a total of 42 Milliways Medals between us!
Keep up the great work, folks!

Happy Hitchhiker Holidays 2019!
Hey all, hope your winter is going well and happy holidays to all celebrating something this time of year!
Just wanted to thank everyone who has helped out on the Wiki this year, and I'm not going anywhere soon - I'll be joining you all in this new year (and new decade!) and still trying to keep the Hitchhiker's Wiki in tip top condition!
It is a shame that we've lost some regular contributors - but life is busy and it's very understandable when people have to put other things in front of volunteering to edit Wikis for free, it is just a hobby for most after all! I'm so grateful to anyone who has been here to help with putting some life back into this Wiki - it's come so far since when I first adopted it. I apologise for being busy especiall…
One year admin-versary!
Hello all!
I just realised it's been a year since I adopted this Wiki - how time flies when you're on a planet with a 365 day year, give or take a leap year!
It's interesting to look back and compare the Wiki to how it was a year ago, it was like a packet of biscuits left forgotten in the back of a mouldy cupboard, but now look at it! We get people updating each week, the logo now makes it clear that this isn't a Wiki about general hitchhiking and backpacking, and our main characters have information on their pages! Wonderful stuff! It makes me quite proud to be part of a community that has helped bring this Wiki up to date, into the 21st century and beyond!
A big thanks to everyone who has contributed and left their footprint on this moon of…
Happy Towel Day 2019!
Hello all! Happy Towel Day to you!
I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has been a part of this Hitchhikers Wiki community over the past few months and made it the great place it is today! It's so good to know that we are growing this community of Hitchhikers fans by the day!
Here's to you all! Hope you have a great Towel Day! I'm going to go and watch the tv series and be sure to keep my towel with me at all time. Catch you later, hoopy froods!

P.S: To celebrate, our new poll is live on the main page! Take a look and vote for your favourite!
New poll - suggestions needed!
Hello all!
It's about time for a new poll on the Main Page - don't you think? We've had so many responses for our current poll, and it's clear that everyone's favourite character is Marvin!
Comment below with your suggestions for new poll topics, any we don't do next will be added to a list for future polls!
I think it could be interesting to find out who everyone's favourite villain or antagonist is from the Hitchhiker's series... or maybe to find out which adaption is everyone's favourite... let me know what you think our next poll could be about!
Keep ahold of your towels, folks!

Here is our list of upcoming polls, feel free to add your suggestions in the comments below and you might see them on the main page in future!

Main Page protection issued after graffiti
Hi all, just wanted to make you aware that the Main Page has been put under Protection due to recent graffiti.
Thankyou to CarterMahoney for the warning about this particular user, and to Sir Maximillian for reverting said graffiti! Very glad to see community spirit in action despite such disappointing behaviour from that user.
Due to the high volume amounts of graffiti this user has been undertaking, and the fact that they seem keen to continue this behaviour, I have decided to put the Main Page under Protection for an unspecified amount of time in order to save us from having to keep reverting any more graffiti. We have been warned that our Wiki is a target for them, so I think it a good idea to put up some extra precautions for the time …
Exactly 3 weeks since I first discovered Hitchhiker's Guide!
Well, perhaps not exactly. I haven't been keeping a prescise tally, but that had a better ring to it than "About three weeks or so ago". I suppose this is an occasion. Not a momentous occasion, perhaps not even a grand occasion, but an occasion nonetheless.
I had known about the movie for some time, seeing it flash across the screen on Netflix on my family movie nights. I vaguely knew there were books, but I had no idea what it was about. For some while I had suggested to my family to watch it, but on family movie night we all have to agree and my mom's not that into sci-fi, and my dad said I wouldn't get all the British humor.
Movie nights are Saturdays and Sundays, and one night after seeing it suggested but eventually having the fa…
Hitchhiker's TV Show Merch!
Hello all!
I always see a lot of Hitchhiker's merch made by fans that's for the books and especially for the film, but never much love for the TV series. Well, I just found some really cool patches and towels (of course) embroidered with designs from the TV show so I thought I'd share it with you all because I know you'll appreciate how cool these are!
They're from an Etsy shop in the UK, here's the link for anyone interested in seeing the rest of their Hitchhiker's stuff: https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/GnTEmbroidery
I think I'm going to be buying something for sure!
Hope you're all having a good week!

Hello World!
Hey everyone!
I am currently writing a paper on The Hitchhiker and I thought I might say hi here.
Yeah let's how all of this goes.
Thanks to everyone for all the helpfull articles :)
See ya!
Wordmark (Logo) updated!
Hello all! I hope February is treating you well.
I've been wanting to update our logo (or wordmark, if you want to be fancy) for quite a while. In the past we've had issues with people thinking this Wiki is about Hitchhiking in general... and the logo just saying 'Hitchhiker Wiki' didn't make it much clearer! (Though it was a cool sci-fi font.)
I've changed the logo to say 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Wiki' with an image of the thumb-in-planet logo next to it, just to make sure it's very clear what we are about. As the Wiki is now pretty active and, thanks to the hard work of our community, has a lot of updated and informational articles, I thought it was a good time to update our brand, so to speak.
I hope the logo is clear and acce…
Infoboxes are changing
Hi all!
Just wanted to let you know that I am planning to finally update the infoboxes to the new system.
In short, this will mean:
- Infoboxes will be more compatible with source code
- Infoboxes will be much easier to edit
- There will be more fields available to add
- It will be easier to use the infobox code and make changes
- Sections will be able to be added in the infoboxes
- The layout will be a lot neater and more modern
This will be a really positive change to our Wiki, the information will be staying the same, but the layout will be much improved and the new code is a lot shorter and easier to work with. We'll be able to just upload images into infoboxes instead of having to use the code for linking an image, and a lot of values will be pre-set ins…
All radio episodes!
Hi everyone!
I've recommended looking at archive.org before for Hitchhiker's resources, as they often have the tv episodes and some of the radio shows uploaded there. However, BBC Radio 4 have recently uploaded all of the radio series, Primary to Hexagonal phase! It's a really great resource when filling out info on this Wiki, but it's also great to have all of these episodes to listen to, and you can download them all for free, too!
Here's the link: https://archive.org/details/hhgttgall6
If you don't have the radio series on hand, or are missing some phases in your collection, then this is a great opportunity to save these. It's a free archive where everything is available to the public, so I thought I'd let you all know about this as it's v…
Apologies for recent disruptions
Hi all, I hope 2019 is treating you well so far.
I just wanted to issue a quick apology for the recent, lengthy discussion I had with a previous member of our community. I did not expect proceedings to take so long and was disappointed to find that the user was not ready to accept their unneccessary behaviour, or the warning issued to them, and they have now been blocked from the Wiki.
I know that I have not been the only person to have had difficulties with this user/their edits, and I hope that this can help us to move forward and continue our process of updating the Wiki without any time consuming disruptions. I have learnt a lot about how to handle guideline-breaking and warnings, so I hope that in the future these things can be sorted o…
600 pages! (And happy holidays!)
It was a bit overwhelming when I first adopted this Wiki, I knew I was determined to help get it into a much more updated and coherent state by the end of the year, and we've done so well. I'd never used Wiki (or as it's now known, Fandom) before finding the Hitchhikers Wiki, and never been an admin on one before either, but I'm feeling so confident about our Wiki and our community lasting a lot longer than it has done previously. Even if people come and go, page information updates and changes, the website continues to grow and evolve... the Hitchhiker's Wiki will remain in at least a half decent state, which is a pretty good thing. :-P
It's coming close towards the end of 2018 so I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who's made even the…

Poll Results!
Hello all!
Our first main page poll has been a success, we have had so many responses! Thanks to everyone who took part!
The clear winner of our visitors' favourite character is Marvin, with an ironic 42 responses, as of when I'm writing this.
Having a poll is quite fun and interactive, and I hope you will agree! I hope to make another poll soon, please comment with any suggestions of questions you would like to see answered.
I think it could be interesting to find out who everyone's favourite villain or antagonist is from the Hitchhiker's series...
I also want to take this opportunity to let you all know that the Featured Page on the main page changes every season (spring, summer, autumn/fall, winter).
Next season's featured page poll is up! Go …
Hello☆
Hello everyone!☆
I wanted to open my first blog to introduce myself.
I'm a very shy girl, and I'm always afraid of being teased because of my problem, because I'm autistic, and it’s very difficult for me to make many friends.
However, I'm a very brilliant girl who spends her time reading or watching scientific and astronomy documentaries.
I also love anything related to sci-fi, and i like to writing and inventing stories
I can’t stand rude people and I hate liars.
I'm sorry if I wrote all these things, but I did not know what to say.
However I'm happy that there is a wiki on a series that I love since childhood! Ford Prefect is my fav n°1 ☆
I hope to make friends here, I have already had negative experiences where they treated me as stupid, jus…
Running the H2G2 Wiki
Hello anyone reading this!
As the forums are archived and I have no way of knowing just how many current contributors are left, I thought it'd be a good idea to make a note of some guidelines of how the original owners and contributors decided the wiki should be run and written, so we can all be sure we are doing things the same way!
If you have any updates or suggestions on these points, please let me know! This is a community project and I want us to work together, and to make sure that everyone is editing in the same way so that we don't go around editing over each others contributions.
I'd like to know how you have been writing things, what you think the best way to write things is, and help us to come up with some set ideas of how to wri…
Testing
Copied this from an article on the Wiki as it is better as a blog post or point of discussion.
Because of the extensive time-traveling and frequent backstories that take place in the HHGtG Series, one individual timeline would be very fragmented. For example, some events in Life, the Universe, and Everything take place over two billion years before the original destruction of Earth. Another similar circumstance is that during Arthur and Ford's five-year exile on Prehistoric Earth, only a day or so seems to pass for Trillian and Zaphod. So there are two timelines in this article. The first one takes place from the viewpoint of Arthur Dent. The second one takes place from the viewpoint of the Universe in general. The destruction of Earth in B…
New chapter
So, having just adopted the wiki, I am open to hearing any and all interesting, positive suggestions for ways the site can be made fun, accessible, whimsical - essentially Adams-ish.
I'm hoping that little by little it can be made a place with growth potential once more, and that it will keep alive that cock-eyed optimism and joy in the unique that were both fundamental facets of the great D.N.A..

Seshendra Sharma is one of the most outstanding minds of modern Asia. He is the foremost of the Telugu poets today who has turned poetry to the gigantic strides of human history and embellished literature with the thrills and triumphs of the 20th century. A revolutionary poet who spurned the pedestrian and pedantic poetry equally, a brilliant critic and a scholar of Sanskrit, this versatile poet has breathed a new vision of modernity to his vernacular. Such minds place Telugu on the world map of intellectualism. Readers conversant with n…
HGTTG lecture
Do you have an idea of what can be said in a lecture about HGTTG? My ideas: - HGTTG in popular culture / fun facts related to HGTTG (Do you know where can I find more about this?) - Crazy ideas in HGTTG, are they even theoretically possible (here I have some ideas, but surely every fan would have any suggestions) - Something about Adams (it's probably the most boring subject). Alternatively, can anyone has any idea or suggestions how to develop these above? I know it's probably dead forum, but maybe someone will see this.
Thanks !
Theoretical Answer
What is the answer to the ultimate question of Life, the Universe, and Everything?
Thought
It's takes a being intergrated with life to know the question with a answer. Think about it? How would you have thought of a question with thinking about it?

On Love
There’s a quote about love, that most mysterious of human emotions, that I’ve come across that seems to be apt for how I’ve been feeling recently.
It’s from a British author named Neil Gaiman, and it is as follows:
"Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up. You build up all these defenses, you build up a whole suit of armor, so that nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life...You give them a piece of you. They didn't ask for it. They did something dumb one day, like smile at you, and then your life isn't your own anymore. Lov…
Benedict plays Limbo
Pope Benedict’s removal of limbo from the Catholic Church’s doctrines raises an important and interesting point. It is reasonably safe to assume that there exists a specific way that reality actually is. There are different models that people subscribe to that attempt to explain the way things are. The current most popular scientific theory states that approximately 13,703,987,124 years, three months, and fifteen days ago, the universe exploded into existence from an infinitely dense, infinitely small singularity. The matter that we see all around us condensed out of a soup of energy into quarks, leptons, protons, neutrons, electrons, x-tons, and hundreds of other different particles; ever since that world creating explosion the universe h…
They Care
In Douglas Adams’ work of genius, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, a trilogy in five parts, in one of the books, I think maybe it could be The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, I do remember it was the one about Krikkit, a character, probably Ford Prefect, makes a comment.
Referring to the killer white krikkiter robots, he says something along the lines of they care, they care more, we don’t, not quite as much, they win; apathy will always lose out against fanaticism, there’s no reason to believe that that isn’t the case.
In the abortion debate there are pro-life/anti-choicers, pro-choice/pro-death/anti-lifers, and those such as I who don’t really give much of a fuck one way or the other.
While a pro-choice proponent might hold that…
Theology and Mortality
Nothing packs the same devastating wallop, a powerful blow to the gut, like the realization of the inexorable march towards death. For as long as I’ve been able to comprehend such things, I’ve known, in an abstract way, about my mortality. However, knowing that, and being able to say “yes, I know I’m going to die”, is much different from comprehending the real implications of such a fact. Knowing that at some point, exactly the same as right now, be it tomorrow or in 2073, there will be a moment when I draw my last breath, think my last thought, see the last image that I ever will see. Nothing has ever felt worse than thinking those thoughts, imagining how it would be like, ever since I first fully realized that, when I must’ve been eleven…
All it would take
I am here, all of us are here, because of an incomprehensible chain of a series of events, each of them as vital as any other, any of which, if they had happened to happen differently, would’ve negated our existence.
If anything, any part of it, no matter how seemingly small or trivial, hadn’t happened, I would not be here right now.
Possibly, someone else would be here in my place, or no one would be here at all.
If at the moment of conception, or to be a little more accurate, and pedantic, slightly before it, your father had sneezed, which caused him to shift his position ever so slightly, the lucky sperm that won the race, and specifies half of your genes, would’ve been a different one than the one that it was.
That different one would only…
On Import
In this world of ours, this wonderful, decrepit, horrific world of ours, there are people.
Not only that, but there are many people, very many people, billions and billions of people.
There are short people and tall people, fat people and thin people, various shades of brown and pink people, people who pray to Allah, people who pray to Satan, people who pray to no one at all, and even people who pray to Joe Pesci.
Some of them are presidents, a few are kings, some are senators, and some are bakers.
Some of these people are mechanics, clerks, dentists, nurses, teachers, thieves, drug dealers, and pimps.
Some of these groups are more numerous, and some are famous, infamous, and unknown.
Some follow the flock, and some are trail blazers.
All of thes…
Why write, right?
Why do I write? Why should I write? I’m not all that sure why I do, or whether doing so does any good or not. Perhaps it’s some type of a neurological defect, a compulsion to put my thoughts to paper, which usually do, even when where they end up doesn’t have the slightest bit of paper, just bits and bytes.
Most of what I write, I write for me. I think it might be because most of the time I’m thinking, about all sorts of things, some random, and in wanting to make sense, or a reasonable facsimile of sense, of everything that’s going on around everywhere, and if I can collect all those disparate things floating around in my consciousness, if I can structure it into something that’s coherent, something that can make sense to other people, I c…
On God
If there is a god, one that created all of existence (save for itself, I think. A god that existed would necessarily be part of existence, but it couldn't create itself), then it would follow that such a god wouldn't be absolutely perfect in every way, as is posited by the many people that believe in it.
A perfect being should be content merely to exist, in need and in want of nothing. What could possible disturb the perfect god's equilibrium to cause it to want to create the universe?
The act of creation would mean that god had a desire, a need for something, something that it didn't have. A perfect being would have everything it needed, everything that it might possible want.
Therefore, at the very least, god's not perfect, because in desir…
On Possibility, Eternity, Genius, and an Infinite Monkey
Any bounded possibility, given an infinite amount of time, can be considered not only an eventuality, but an absolute certainty. This follows because infinity is not merely a big number, it's an insanely, massively, enormously, gigantically bigger number than you can even begin to imagine. If you place a limit on something, no matter how large or liberal that limit is, that thing will happen not just once, but again, and again, and again an infinite number of times if it's given an infinite amount of time to run its course. For example, novels generally have from 60,000 to 200,000 words. That's a large number, but it is still as far from infinity as three is. The English language has, and this is very approximately, 988,968 words that have…
Artificial Super Intelligence, cruel, psychopathic God, or a loving, empathetic one?
Ever watch Person of Interest btw? It's one of my favorite shows. Sometimes I wonder what would happen if a machine like The Machine actually came online... Would it be The Machine, or Skynet? Would it love us, or want to exterminate us? Would it be an ever perfecting Artificial Super Intelligence with empathy, or would it be a psychopathic monster beyond our control? Would it be Her? The girl I fell in love with, we met accidentally on reddit, she was there for /r/SuicideWatch... I was there for /r/AskReddit... And I fell in love with her through my Smart Phone, a Galaxy S4... It's like Smart Phones are real Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, already in our pocket... Think about... That's why digital watches are such a neat idea, and the n…
Separate sections for movie information
I tried to post this in the forums, but it didn't work.
Seeing as a large amount of content in the movie is vastly to the other forms of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, I propose for all movie information to be stored in a seperate section of aricles.
Example:
Fish live in water
Fish still live in water.
Obviously that isn't an actual article, but it does make some articles confusing when they contain both book/Tv series/radio play information as well as information from the movie that contradicts them. I know all the different versions have differences, but the movie is far more noticible, to the point wherer it affects the intregrity of the articles.
Last Human?
I know that Hitchhiker's came much sooner than Red Dwarf- but anyone who read chapter 1 The Salmon of Doubt would read about about, if I remember the quote well enough, a man called Dave, hang-gliding over Daveland (formerly California), 1.2 MYA the extinction of the human race. Sound familiar?
