Hillman Hunter was an Irish property developer from Earth who was tricked by Zaphod Beeblebrox into moving to a planet created by Magrathea called Nano. He interviews various gods, as he is keen to employ Thor to keep the society he has created on the planet devoutly controlled. He acts as not merely a stereotypical Irishman but a "stereotype Paddy from a bygone era" using phrases such as Bejaysus and invoking leprechauns. He has considerable problems with the Tyromancers from an alternate reality who have also settled on the planet, led by an alternative version of him called Aseed Preflux.

He essentially ruled the planet Nano, which he named after his grandmother. He also named all the major towns on the planet (of which there were two). He led the society that moved there but faced some revolution from both the Tyromancers and all the personal carers, who complained that they were being treated like slaves.

Appearances

Hunter is a major character in the Eoin Colfer novel And Another Thing... and the corresponding radio series, the Hexagonal Phase.

Behind the scenes

Like Ford Prefect, whose name came from the Ford Prefect car, Hillman Hunter's name derives from an automobile sold in the United Kingdom in the 1960s.
