An ion drive, also known as an ion thruster
The ion drive delta boat (referred to as the ion-drive delta boat in later book editions) was a nautical craft was used by Zaphod Beeblebrox on Damogran the day that he stole the Heart of Gold.
Description[]
It was directed by means of a primitive steering wheel system, and was supported just above the water by a hazy cushion of ionised atoms. Nonetheless, it had fin blades that could be lowered into the water for the purpose of creating amazing water displays for show. It was well suited for use by the President of the Galaxy, who had a proclivity towards flashy and often unnecessary objects.
