Peter Jones was an English actor, screenwriter and broadcaster. He voiced the Guide in the first radio series of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and in the 1981 television series and LP album adaptions.

His other roles in radio included starring in the BBC radio comedy In All Directions, and as as Mervyn Bunter in the Lord Peter Wimsey stories.

Jones also had acting roles on TV, in The Goodies, Holby CityThe BillMidsomer MurdersMinder and two episodes of The Avengers. His film roles include parts in Private's Progress (1956), School for Scoundrels (1960), Just like a Woman (1967), The Return of the Pink Panther (1975), Chariots of Fire (1981), and Danger Within (1959), which also featured his future successor as the Voice of the Guide, William Franklyn.

He is survived by his three children.
